About Us

Welcome to Late Birds, our bilingual after-school care at the John F. Kennedy School. At Late Birds we offer flexible, dependable childcare at the school to all students from Entrance Class to grade 6. It is a fun place to go to after school on days when additional care is needed.

Since school year 2017/2018, Late Birds is run by Villa Grips Soziale und Bildungsdienste gGmbH, an external care provider (accredited by the Berlin Jugendhilfe).

Our staff will welcome your child after school in our rooms located in the Elementary School Building. (Main Room R167 phone  030-90299-5116) They will accompany the children to the Aula to eat a hot lunch or their lunch brought from home. The children may choose among a variety of activities and will have plenty of time to play, relax or spend time with their friends.

Children taking the school bus at 3 or 4 pm will be accompanied to the bus by Late Birds staff members. We will also make sure that your children arrive on time at their extra-curricular activities held at school.

JFKS has excellent outdoor facilities and Late Birds is happy to utilize these resources letting the children spend as much time outside as possible. We play soccer, table tennis, basketball, and many other fun and creative activities outside. Inside we have a variety of board games, a huge collection of Lego and Kapla bricks, costumes for acting and sketches, and other activities to engage the children.  There are also books to read and we offer the children in our arts and crafts room numerous possibilities for creative drawing , painting, and handicrafts.

We also offer different activity clubs each day.  On Monday we have Science Club which is a fun way for kids to learn basic science concepts and get excited about different types of science.  On Tuesdays we have Craft Club where kids have the opportunity to complete an art project or work on ongoing projects such as learning finger knitting or creating clay sculptures.  On Wednesdays we have Book Club where children have the opportunity to go up to the school library with a staff member and pick out books to read at Late Birds during the following week.  On Thursdays we offer a Nature Club which gets kids excited about the world around them and learning about how it works.  Fridays are flexible days where we can plan activities to follow up on something the kids particularly liked during the week or organize a new activity.  Clubs take place from 2:15 until 3 pm to give all children the opportunity to participate if they would like.

The children should feel at home at Late Birds where they should enjoy their free time in the school. To this end, we offer care in small groups and a warm and friendly environment. Our childcare team has experience with children of different cultures and age groups. The security of your children is of utmost importance to us.
